![]() ![]() I would give it a 1 star rating, while G, B, & U and Fistful would get 5 stars (again, based on how they entertained me.Pale Rider Movie Review Pale Rider Filming Locations I thought the Unforgiven was a very well made movie, but I did not like it. Their 'salvation' is provided by a tough guy preacher, played by Mr. The basic plot is about a mining camp being pressured to abandon their claims by the big powerful local rich guy bully. However, it has the enhanced quality and missing voice overs that many do not like. It lacks the great tense scenes, the Fantastic music scores etc. If that is the kind that you like, this movie will dis appoint you a bit. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, is another of my favorites. Just so you know how to gauge this review, I favor his movies like Fistful of Dollars were pretty much all the bad guys (almost the whole cast) dies in some spectacular showdown. Personally, I like the fantasy revenge / justice style of many of the Eastwood westerns. I think the overall quality of the acting is better in Pale Rider. However, I watch movies mostly for entertainment value, and I think that High Plains Drifter was easily as entertaining. Pale rider seems to me to be of a higher quality the settings seem a little more realistic, not as much like a temporary movie set. This movie strikes me as a re-invention of High Plains Drifter. ![]() Mildly entertaining, not amoung the best Eastwood Westerns As Megan is racing to town to throw herself at the Preacher, he rides off the same way that he arrived. In the showdown, Eastwood kills all of the deputies and Stockburn. He chases Hull's horse off, because he don't want him hurt. Then Eastwood goes off to meet Stockburn and his men. ![]() After taking Megan home, Eastwood and Hull dynamite the hydraulic mining operation and buildings. The preacher gets there just in time and saves Megan, and shoots Josh in the hand. Upon returning, he finds Megan being accosted by LaHood's son Josh who runs things for his dad. When the morning of the showdown comes, the Preacher is gone. Sarah and Megan are both sort of in love with the Preacher, but he refuses their advances. Hull Barrett has guts and wants everyone to stand up and fight. The Preacher knows Stockburn, and you just have the feeling that there is a bad history that needs to be settled. Feeling that the Preacher will be there to handle things for them, they refuse the offer. Eastwood then suggests that LaHood pay them to leave and he then offers to pay $1000 per claim for the prospectors to leave, or face a gang of Regulators, Marshall Stockburn, and his deputies, all killers. When he tries to bribe the Preacher with offers of a church in town, rich Sunday collections, and nice clothes, he has no luck. The owner of the corporate mining operation is Coy LaHood. In the ensuing days, it becomes pretty obvious that although the Preacher is a man of God, he is also someone else, someone not to be messed with. Sarah has a fifteen year old daughter, Megan, who just days earlier when the riders tore up their camp and killer her dog, prayed for help. Sarah, isn't married to Hull yet, but plans to marry. When Hull arrives home, his wife is upset that he has asked a stranger into their home, but when he walks in and is wearing a clerical collar, all are surprised. Hull doesn't know that Eastwood is a preacher at this point. Hull invites the Preacher home with him for saving his life. The prospectors have legal claims, but if they can be chased out, the big mine can take over. Hull's group have been constantly under siege by riders who work for a large hydraulic mining operation. The man is Hull Barrett (Michael Moriarty), and he is one of several "tin pans", miners who pan for gold dust in the streams of Corbet Canyon. The Preacher wades into them just as any good samaritan would have done. As he rides into a snow covered small Northern California town he sees a bunch of bullies attacking a peaceful, unarmed man. He is a man of no name, just an occupation, a traveling preacher. ![]()
